Summary

In the FpML 4.1 Trial Recommendation, 6.3 Credit Derivative Product Architecture/generalTerms we read (my *emphasis*):

"A referenceObligation element has either a bond or a convertibleBond as one of its child elements... The instrumentId element is used to specify CUSIP/ISIN. The *optional* instrumentIdScheme is used to specify whether the id provided is a CUSIP or an ISIN ..."

However in the definition of UnderlyingAsset, extended by type Bond (fpml-asset- 4-1.xsd), we see:

and in the definition of InstrumentId (fpml-shared-4-1.xsd):

- so instrumentId/@instrumentIdScheme is mandatory and a document which omits this attribute is not schema-valid, contrary to the statement in para 6.3.

Best regards, Harry
